Overview - This program is designed to teach basic skating instruction to children who are new to the ice. This will be done through repetition, games, and other fun activities each week. A number of qualified instructors are on the ice with the children. The skaters are generally broken into groups over the first few weeks according to abilities.
Ages/Eligibility - Children who are at least 4 years old (as of December 31st) are welcome to participate in this group. Our maximum age limit is 7 years old, but we make exceptions on a case by case basis. Average age of participants is 5 years old.
Time + Days – Season starts in early November + runs through earlyMarch. We will have 2 sessions each weekend:
Equipment - All skaters are required to wear skates, a proper hockey helmet (with cage), knee + elbow pads, and gloves (they do not need to be hockey gloves; normal winter gloves/mittens are fine). We also suggest that snow pants are helpful to cushion those early falls + keep the children dry.
Overview - The goal for Instructional Hockey is to pick up basic skills and have fun playing hockey. Your child will learn skating forward and backwards, stick handling, puck control, passing and shooting, teamwork, and the basics of hockey. Practices will follow the American Developmental Model (ADM - www.admkids.com) where the children will be moving from station to station in order to work on skating skills, hockey skills, and small area games.
Ages/Eligibility - This program is targeted for children who have completed at least 1 year of Learn to Skate (either at PYH or like program). Average age of participants is 6 years old.
